The Essence of Electric Vehicles in Nepal

As we know that the air we use to breathe is being polluted day by day. Different research has shown that the quality of air in major cities like Kathmandu and others is being degraded continuously. It is the fact that it's making the daily life of humans harder beside this it's also affecting our biodiversity and the whole ecosystem.

Nepal is known for being the 8th most polluted country in a recent air quality survey. Keeping this pollution affect foreigners are focusing on electric vehicles. The fact is alive that the carbon mono oxide released from petroleum vehicles plays a vital role in making the air polluted. In this condition, electric vehicles can be the best alternative to diesel and petrol vehicles.

Government Tax Policy on Electric Vehicles 2079/2080

Tax levied by the government directly affects the demand and supply of any product. The government of Nepal has crafted a new tax policy on the import of electric vehicles from the fiscal year 2079/2080.

As we talk about the foreign country not going far from us, the Indian Government provides subsidies for buying electric cars and vehicles to its citizen to promote renewable energy and reduce pollution in the country. But there is no provision for providing subsidies on electric cars and vehicles in Nepal.

According to the Tax policy of the government of Nepal, we can observe the following scenario regarding the taxation of electric cars and vehicles.

There is no excise duty for any kind of electric vehicle.

The custom duty levied on the electric vehicle has been divided into 4 categories. According to which following measures can be observed.

Below 100KW - 10%
100 KW to 200KW - 15%
200KW to 300KW - 30%
300KW to 400KW - 40%

According to this kind of taxation system for electric vehicles 10% tax is levied for below 100 KW capacity motor vehicles, 15% for 100KW to 200KW motor vehicles, 30% for 200KW to 300KW motor vehicles, 40% for 300KW to 400KW

After this 13% vat is levied.

Charging Station

Whenever we talk about electric cars and vehicles, we often worry about the availability of charging stations. It's normal. But in this kind of early revolution of renewable energy and electric vehicle the expectation of having adequate services all over any country is quite an ingenious matter.

Charging stations for electric vehicles are available in the major cities of Nepal. There are separate charging stations providing the fast charging DC charger for Hyundai, Kia, Tata Motors, BYD, and so on.

If you are using the electric car for city usage and office rides for up to 200 km daily you do not need to worry about the charging station. You can easily charge it at your home or apartment or office.

The charging time depends upon the capacity of the motor and the charging mode either DC or AC.

Here is the list of Charging stations provided by different companies in Nepal

Itahari, Kathmandu, Mulkot, Dhalkebagar, Chumlingtar, Pokhara, Hetauda, Bhairahawa, Nepalgunj, Bharatpur, Birtamod, Dang, Dhangadhi, Birgunj, Surkhet

BYD has the largest number of charging stations in Nepal and other companies like Hyundai, KIA, and Tata Motors are also expanding their network all over Nepal.

Pros and Cons of Electric Vehicle

I think I don't need to highlight the pros of electric vehicles in deep. As it is the need of the present time when humans are facing the air and sound pollution in city areas it can reduce them easily. It does not produce sound and it is environment friendly because it coops with the ecosystem not harming the quality of nature.

The major con that I want to aware you is that you can fall into trouble if you are going on a long tour with your electric vehicle if you do not find any charging station. But you can stay in a good hotel to charge your electric vehicle.

Its speed and performance are not less than any diesel or petrol vehicle in comparison. It comes with the technology of regeneration so that it gives you better battery life. Its braking system is automated with the accelerator of the vehicle so that you do not need to change the brake pads frequently.

Review and Opinion Section

electric-car-review

From the experience of using electric cars in Nepal, we can say that the battery depends upon the mode we use for driving like normal, economy, and sports. Using AC in the car drains the battery of the car faster.

Another amazing thing is that there is the facility of gear shifting as it is not an engine-based vehicle. We do not need to change the gear like on the engine-based cars so that it can easily win the drag race with engine-based cars.

Other things depend upon the model of the cars you use. The technology of regeneration [regeneration means charging the battery from the motion of the car's wheel] and gear shifting makes you feel different and something exciting.

Another point that an electric car buyer should consider is that the mileage that the company claims may vary in real life.
